Recording this little memoir of growing up on a haunted farm has been fun. I’ve enjoyed reliving most of the memories and learning about experiences others had that I didn’t know about. But, now it’s time to get back to the kind of writing I prefer – fiction!
I’m taking my memories of growing up haunted, tweaking the crap out of them, and turning them into a kids book! Back in 2011, (thank you Nanowrimo – National Novel Writing Month) I began a series called, The Pickles and Piper Mystery Series. In their first adventure, they took on zombies, which were created by their Uncle Vic. He’s now safe in an old folks home. Then came the Amish zombies. Now, we’re moving onto the paranormal!
Their new adventure begins with this letter from grandma:
My dear little Pickles,
Your grouchy old grandfather and I are in need of your services. A couple of our sheep have gone missing, and Pimples, the Chihuahua, has also vanished. Although the Grouch insists he’s heard him barking a few times in the backyard, he’s yet to see him.
I’m sorry this has nothing to do with zombies. I know how you love them.
Enclosed are a couple of train tickets for you and your cousin Piper. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Lots of love,
Your hairy lipped grandma
PS: You’ll have to sleep in the barn. Turd, the poltergeist, has taken over the second floor. He pushed the Grouch down the steps three weeks ago, and the Grouch fractured a hip. He’s now in a wheelchair. I hope you girls don’t mind milking the cows.
